REIMAGINEWASTE HACKATHONS

REimagiNEWaste is an immersive hackathon and incubation program pioneered by Waste Impact aiming to co-create innovative inclusive solutions for various aspects of the waste problem. Each year REimagiNEWaste focuses on tackling one aspect of the multifaceted waste problem. Reimagine waste hackathon is a beautiful marriage of solving day to day waste issues while being inclusive of technological innovations..

REIMAGINEWASTE HACKATHON 5: PLASTICS & DATA ANALYTICS

REimagiNEWaste 5 – Plastics & Analytics – was conducted in collaboration with Waste Knot, Ramaiah Institute of Technology IEEE Student branch and Ramaiah Institute of Technology EDC cell with the support of KSPCB Wipro and AMIMED CURA in April 2021:
  • 95 participants including 15 waste pickers
  • 2 winning ideas:
    a). Team PlasPicker – An AI-powered plastic              sorting solution.
    b). Team Waste Sank – A data dashboard                 aggregating all plastic waste data.
  • Winning teams were given an opportunity to be incubated and supported with the support of Wipro, KSPCB and ELCITA

REIMAGINEWASTE HACKATHON 4: BIO MEDICAL WASTE

REimagiNEWaste 4 – Biomedical Waste – was conducted in collaboration NSRCEL, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in December 2019:
  • 120 participants including 34 biomedical waste handlers.
  • 16 teams pitched to be among finalists
  • 8 made it to the finals.
  • 6 Eminent judges from the medical, business and investment fields selected the winning solutions
  • 2 solutions pertaining to liquid waste treatment solutions for small
    hospitals/clinics/ laboratoriesApp based solution for management of used and expired medicine
  • A nano bin to facilitate waste segregation in hospitals
     

REIMAGINEWASTE HACKATHON 3: WATER, WASTE & LIVELIHOODS

REimagiNEWaste3 – Water, Waste and Livelihoods – was conducted in collaboration with CPDM, IISc in September 2018:
  • 181 participants including 43 Domain Experts such as manual scavengers, communities working in managing the lakes and people from all walks of life.
  • 29 teams pitched to be among finalists
  • 8 made it to the finals
  • 11 Eminent judges made the difficult decisions of choosing the winners
  • 4 winning solutions

REIMAGINEWASTE HACKATHON 2: THE STREET FOOD VENDOR

REimagiNEWaste2 – The Street Food Vendor- was conducted in collaboration with CPDM, IISc in August 2017:
  • 175 participants including 26 Pourakarmikas,15 Waste Collectors and 7 Street Vendors.
  • 19 teams pitched to be among finalists
  • 21 solutions registered

REIMAGINEWASTE HACKATHON 1: THE WASTE PICKER

REimagiNEWaste1 – The Waste Picker – was conducted in collaboration with CPDM, IIsc in April 2016 for four days:
  • 200 participants including 40 Waste Pickers and People from all walks of life.
  • 36 teams pitched to be among finalists
  • 12 made it to the finals
  • 9 Eminent judges took an hour and half to declare
  • 6 winning solutions 45 day Challenge Outcome  17 team participated
  • 17 team participated
  • 2 teams (Trixie and Waste Samaritans) piloted and incubated – ready to take off as social enterprises.
